National Geographic Bee Competition: 

Congratulations to AFMS Geo Bee Champion, 7th Grader, Jean Rhinehart!

Jean completed the competition with a perfect score! Brava!

Open to any interested 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student

Students must sign up in advance in order to recieve a pass to the competition.

This is an annual event for AFMS.

Practice Sessions most Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:15 to 1 PM

in Mrs. Stone's Room beginning November 3, 2011.

AFMS Local Scripps National Spelling Bee

Wednesday, February 8, 2012/ 1:30 PM/ Mrs. Z's Music Room 

6th, 7th and 8th grade advisor group winners will compete. 

The top two spellers will represent AFMS at the CESA 5 Regional Spelling Bee on

Tuesday, February 14, 1:00 PM in the AFMS Library.

CWTAG Elementary Spelling Bee

9:30 AM Reedsburg CAL Center (at the HS) / Reedsburg, WI

Open to students in grades 4 and 5.  

One winner from each elementary school in the district may attend the

event.  Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the event in Reedsburg.

A Distance Learning Lab Experience through the CESA 5 SCING network

October/November/December: Shilo (3/4) and Bud, Not Buddy (5.6)

Congratulations to 4th Gr. Team Adams, 5th Gr. Team Adams

and 6th Gr. All Girl Team! All 3  teams earned 'Bragging Rights' by winning the

Radical Readers Know final trivia competition! All students showed exemplary Team Work! Thank you!

CESA 5 Regional Spelling Bee/ Scripps National Spelling Bee  

February 14, 2012  1:00 AFMS Library

Students from Adams-Friendship, Baraboo, Mauston, Necedah, New Lisbon,

Portage, Reedsburg, Sauk Prairie and Wisconsin Dells will compete for the chance

to participate in the State Spelling Bee.

 

 

August Derleth Young Writers Project

Open to any interested 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade student.

Student works will be read by a panel of judges and the top 2 in

each category (Poetry, Personal Narrative, Creative Writing based on picture prompt)

in each age group (3rd/4th and 5th/6th) will be selected to attend a day-long

conference at UW-Baraboo in May   

Work due to Ms. Pheiffer by 3:30 Pm on Monday, February 20, 2012

Second Annual AFMS Academic Invitational

Grades 7 and 8 from AF, Westfield, WI Dells, Wautoma, Nekoosa, Berlin

Thursday, April 12, 2012   9 AM at AFMS

Teams of five 7th/8th grade students from each district will answer

75 individual questions and 10 Team questions and 10 problem-solving

questions in this cross-curricular academic competition.

AFMS team members are invited to participate

based on test scores, academic performance and teacher recommendation.

Creative Arts Festival

April 19, 2012  

All day event held in Wautoma.  Open to 5th grade students.

Sponsored by CWTAG (Central Wisconsin Talented and Gifted) Council.

Students are selected by random drawing from teacher nominations list.

Students need to have high ability and strong interest in visual arts, music or

drama. They need to exhibit self-control and have the ability to follow directions

in a trustworthy manner. Limited to 6 students.

Noetic Learning Math Contest

April 2012:  Week of April 16th-20th; Times arranged

with individual classes involved.

The goal of the competition is to encourage young students'

interest in Math, to inspire them to excel in Math, and to

develop their problem solving skills.

Administered in individual buildings on that date.

Criteria for participation: For grades 2, 3, 4, and 5

80% or higher on most recent MAP

test in Math and/or Teacher Recommendation.

Auditions:  January 2012

Performance Dates:  

Thursday, March 22nd on Stage at AFMS: 10:30/ 1:30 for AFAS and 7:00 PM for the Public

Friday, March 23rd on Stage at AFMS: 7:00 PM for the Public

Admission:  An item for the Adams County Food Pantry and/or a monetary donation for continued Arts Programs for Area Youth.

All rehearsals from 3:30 to 5:20 at AFMS/ Mrs. Z's Music Room:  Monday, Tuesday and Thursday

College Days for Kids at UW-Stevens Point

REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED!

All day event. Open to 6th graders. Students submit an essay

stating why they think they want to attend College Days for Kids and

what they hope to learn by attending.  We are allowed to take 14 students this year.

Student names selected by random drawing from those who completed the essay.
